A record of visual work worth learning from, and the one thing each piece taught.
Source of Flow is a working archive. Film posters, magazines, packaging, signage, websites, apps: anything that solves a problem well enough to be worth taking something from. Every entry is filed with a number, a format and the elements it demonstrates, so it can be found again when a build needs it.
Each one carries a lesson. Not a description of the work, but the single move worth taking from it, in one sentence. It is the slowest part of filing something and the only part that gets used later.
Entries are grouped into chapters. A chapter runs until it feels finished rather than to a calendar, then closes and the next one opens. Each carries a short note on what it was circling.
Kept by Mike, who designs and builds websites at FlowCreates in Kuala Lumpur. Most of what is filed here turns up in a build eventually.
The archive doubles as the studio's reference library. Before a new FlowCreates build starts, the brief is checked against what is filed here, and the Used in field on each entry shows where a lesson ended up in client work.
